Jeff Petry, formerly of the Pittsburgh Penguins, was recently traded to the Montreal Canadiens in the Erik Karlsson trade where he was quickly moved again just 10 days later to the Detroit Red Wings.

The Red Wings have acquired Jeff Petry from the Canadiens in exchange for Gustav Lindstrom and a conditional 2025 fourth-round pick. 🔁

Montreal will retain 50% of Petry's salary.

The Canadiens retained 50% of his salary in this trade, and in an odd bit of circumstances, we learned today that Petry's father, Dan Petry, played for the Detroit Tigers from 1979-1987. This connection may explain why Detroit was a desirable destination for Petry despite his age.

As a native of Ann Arbor, this trade is a homecoming for Petry and he is sure to bring value to the Red Wings locker room if he is able to maintain his defensive upside for the team.
