Was this the Oilers biggest bust other than Nail Yakupov?
We all know how bad things turned out for Nail Yakupov, the 1st overall pick in the 2012 NHL Draft.
Apart from that bust, Nikolai Khabibulin is another goalie from the Oilers team who was picked up in 2009 to replace Dwayne Roloson as the Oilers' starting goalie.
Who else remembers the hype behind Nikolai Khabibulan in 2009?!

It is important to note that during his time in Edmonton, he was not the same goalie who won a Stanley Cup with Tampa Bay in 2004.
As a result of injuries and surgeries, he missed two seasons (partially) in 2010-2011 and 2011-2012, respectively.
He indeed showed flashes of brilliance during the lockout-shortened season of 2012-13, but he would never be able to regain it since he would be replaced by his former backup, Devan Dubnyk, who would end up winning the starting job over him.
It was announced that Khabibulin would be stepping down from the NHL at the end of 2015 to pursue a career in management.
Although Khabibulin did not end his career with the Edmonton Oilers, he was nearing the end regarding injury struggles and losing his job. Too bad it didn't work out like the Oilers would've hoped.
