As the NHL season approaches, the Edmonton Oilers are looking to shore up their lineup. A cheap NHLer could serve as a placeholder for Vincent Desharnais if you check who is available.

The man in question is Zach Bogosian, a two-time Stanley Cup champion.

Zach Bogosian (#GoBolts) also on waivers today. Lightning were trying to find him a landing spot to get more opportunity and playing time.

During the Lightning's 2020 Stanley Cup run, Bogo won a Cup and took a year off before returning to the team. Nevertheless, he has been placed on waivers today.

With an $850K contract, Bogo could be the right-handed defenceman Descharnais hasn't been.

I find it puzzling that Bogo would get sent to Syracuse instead of Philipe Myers today, since Bogo has been a consistent playoff performer. His regular season partner was Victor Hedman, and during the playoffs, he was paired with Ian Cole, who has an impressive 67% corsi percentage (on ice shot attempts).

Considering his resume, it is surprising that he was sent to the AHL, but according to Frank Seravalli, the team sent him down to give him more playing time? There's something wrong with that math.

With this opportunity, the Oilers could easily add a playoff performer to their defensive ranks. .
