It all began when Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Ivan Provorov chose not to wear a pride jersey during warmup. He explained to the media that his beliefs from the religion he follows didn't resonate with that group.
Afterwards, a firestorm of comments and discussions continued to build throughout the league and the media and more players continued to come forward with their reservations to wear pride jerseys.
This has also led to other players expressing their views on why they do wear them and why it's important to be more inclusive and show support for the LGBTIQA+ community.
Tonight Oilers forward Zach Hyman posed the question about this subject and he felt that he will support this community and will wear a pride jersey.
In my opinion, I feel that the NHL and the NHLPA should make a formal joint statement regarding this subject which would affect all 32 teams whether that's through an emergency meeting or a joint statement on what players are to be expected to do and ownership as well.
