Dellow will join the Hurricanes as their Assistant General Manager, the highest position he's held in his NHL career so far. According to Daily Faceoff, Dellow is praised for his encyclopedic knowledge of hockey and being on the first wave of analytics contributions to hockey.
After spending time writing for the Athletic, Dellow first entered the NHL with the Edmonton Oilers in the 2014-15 season as a Team Consultant in the heavily-lacking analytics department. The Oilers only took him on for two seasons, before inexplicably not rendering his contract and parting ways. Afterwards, Dellow went on to join the New Jersey Devils for 5 seasons as their director of analytics, turning them into a powerhouse team in the Eastern Conference. The Devils have ranked highly in several analytical rankings in recent years, that actually predicted their breakout before they became a contending team - a great sign of Dellow's success.
Since letting Dellow slip through their fingers, the Edmonton Oilers have done much better building their front office with talent analytics executives under President Jeff Jackson's leadership. The Oilers now have Michael Parkatti heading their analytics division, another respected name in the community, and have recently hired 23 year old Erik Elenz as a video coach and analytics contributor - someone who's been identified as a rising contributor in the field.
The Hurricanes got a quality hire in their new assistant General Manager, and they already have a great reputation for hiring hockey's most advanced minds. Oilers fans will be wishing the best for Dellow in the next phase of his career.
