It's been quite the season for Flames forward Andrei Kuzmenko who began his season with the Vancouver Canucks who was then moved to the Calgary Flames for Elias Lindholm. It was reported today that Kuzmenko has decided to change agents and now will be represented by Newport Sports.

The sports agency was founded by NHL legendary agent Don Meehan and continues to be a staple for many high-end clients including Blackhawks Connor Bedard, Panthers Aaron Ekblad and former Oilers forward Jordan Eberle just to name a few. Hiring this agency will boost his chances of obtaining a better extension later on and also possible trade destinations.

It's likely that the Calgary Flames will be looking at Kuzmenko as possible trade bait during the offseason as he holds one more year on his contract worth 5.5 million AAV. The team is in a state of flux as a mass exodus of players left the team over the past two years which has devoid the team of talent and have signalled the NHL that they will move into a rebuild phase.

Kuzmenko seeked changing teams after issues with Tocchet

Kuzmenko had a difficult time adjusting to Vancouver Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet and the demands he put on him which led to the trade to Calgary.
He played 29 games for the flames and scored 14 goals with 11 assists for 25 points. Overall, he played 72 games where he scored 22 goals with 24 assists for 46 points.

As the Calgary sell off continues with Jacob Markstrom on the block, the team will try to sell high with Kuzmenko as general manager Craig Conroy continues to reshape his roster.
