The Vancouver Canucks surprised the NHL late in the offseason when they were able to sign Daniel Sprong, a former 20 goal scorer for one year league minimum contract.

Sprong was traded back to his former team, the Seattle Kraken, this evening for only future considerations. For a player with a history of offensive success, it was a surprise to see him go for literally nothing.

Only 27 years old with a history of success with limited opportunities, there must be something else going on for a player to play for 6 different teams in only 9 years. Just two seasons ago, Sprong scored 21 goals and 45 points in 66 games with the Detroit Red Wings.

Sprong only played 9 games with the Canucks, and was only given bottom six minutes when in the lineup. He scored 1 goal and 3 assists, but according to Canucks sources, Sprong just didn't fit in with the roster, and could earn the trust of the coach.

Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin gave a brief statement to the media, only thanking Sprong for his time with the team. In his place, Vancouver is expected to call up a prospect in Lekkerimaki, or a depth forward in Arshdeep Bains.

Playing on so many different teams in consecutive years, there's got to be something that's keeping Sprong from finding a real home in the NHL. We'll see if he can rebound on his old team, and once again prove himself as one of the league's most efficient depth scorers. Once again, it seems like he wasn't given a fair chance in Vancouver.
