Seravalli was careful to note that this is still a fluid situation, but the NHL is clearly planning for the event that the Coyotes will be relocated to Utah. Earlier this week, the potential owner for a team in Utah surveyed the public for their team name.
The Coyotes have been stuck in Arizona State University's arena, practically lighting money on fire in a 5,000 seat capacity arena. Finally it seems, NHL ownership and the Players' Association has had enough with the joke of the Coyotes, which has led to a hard push towards a real solution this year.
Just a few days ago, the Coyotes released a commitment to win' a land auction in Arizona with plans to build a sprawling sports and entertainment district. In response, the Scottsdale Mayor released a statement saying the Coyotes were not welcome, and have proved far too much financial instability to invest in. This raises much more doubts that the Coyotes can follow through on their plans to actually build their proposed arena due to legal reasons.
The NHL drafting one schedule to include the Coyotes relocated in Utah next season is extremely interesting to see. According to reports from Elliotte Friedman earlier this season, the league is becoming anxious to find a permanent solution to this Coyotes problem - and selling them off to a reputable NBA owner in Utah is looking like it will be the best move.
