After falling to down three games in the series, Knoblauch stressed his belief that the Oilers can still beat the Panthers - but time is running out, and they haven't beaten them once this season.
"We've had a 16-game winning streak. When things go well, we can really turn it, turn it up. And, you know, I think we've showed that we can beat this team. I think there's a lot of belief in that."
Until the last ten minutes of the game last night, it's seems like the Oilers don't have a hope at all of beating the Florida Panthers. Not only are the Panthers getting elite defence from every member of their team, goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky has become an unstoppable force in this series. On the other hand, Edmonton's defence and goaltending is looking shaky.
Oilers fans and hockey fans abroad didn't love the quote from Knoblauch, saying it lacked the sense of urgency the team needs right now.
Aside from game one, the Florida Panthers have dominated the Edmonton Oilers. As Knoblauch said, the team has pulled themselves out of the gutter before, but overcoming a three game deficit in the Cup Final is a Herculean task.
The players in the room clearly believe they can pull it off, but they'll need to make a statement in game 4 that this series isn't over. If they don't, the Oilers series will be over, and Matthew Tkachuk will lift the Stanley Cup in Edmonton.
