Referee taunts the home crowd with savage no goal call

It's rarely a good look for the NHL when their referees take the Center stage of attention during games. Usually it's for bad calls, but at times like Wes McCauley, the referees can add a bit of lighthearted entertainment. In tonight's game between the New York Islanders and St. Louis Blues, the referee Garret Rank made a bit of a joke when he overturned a goal for the home team.
While announcing a goal under review would be overturned, the referee came out and announced to the home crowd, «You're not gonna like it but the call on the ice was correct, no goal.»
The crowd met the ref's joke with some boos while the play by play announcers chuckled in the booth. It was a good moment to make the joke with the Blues already up 4-0 in the final minutes of the game. If the goal has been a controversial call in a close game, this kind of joke would probably met with beer cans on the ice. With this however, referee Garret Rank pulled off a well executed joke on the ice. Good on him, but no one will forget the referees are still atrocious in this league.
