Celebrini absolutely tore up the NCAA with Boston University last season, scoring 64 points in just 38 games against much older competition. He's not hyped up to be at the talent level of generational first round picks like Connor McDavid and Connor Bedard, but Celebrini is absolutely worthy of a first overall pick - he will be an elite player in the NHL.
With drafting college free agents, there's become risk that they can control their own destiny and force a move off the team that drafted him. This reportedly won't be a problem for the Sharks with Celebrini, who's confirmed to be turning pro next season, and will likely make the NHL roster in training camp.
With their first overall pick officially joining the team, things are finally beginning to look up for the San Jose Sharks, who were an abysmal team last season. After free agent signings of Tyler Toffoli, Carl Grundstom, and Alex Wennberg, it looks like they're actually trying to insulate Celebrini with some talent, and get back into playoff contention soon.
