With Dubas as their new GM, the Penguins have been ultra-aggressive in their pursuit of a cup while Crosby is still a superstar. Dubas has made many moves to both increase the team's competitiveness while also trying to take care of the team's future. The Penguins are looking to steal a young forward from the Leafs, one who Dubas knows very well.
In June, a report emerged from NHL insider Chris Johnston that Robertson has submitted a trade request and has no intention of signing with Toronto.
Robertson has been in many trade talks for the Leafs, as he's expressed his displeasure with his lack of ice time in a competitive Leafs lineup. Robertson will definitely have more of a spot in the Penguins lineup as they are more strapped for depth, and he would be more likely to accept an offer there than back with the Leafs.
Nick Robertson has wanted out of Toronto for about a year now, with the Leafs making multiple attempts to send him to other teams. Robertson put up 27 points in 56 games with the Leafs this year, while only averaging 11:23 a night.
Robertson has shown flashes of the player he can be, with very promising moments that show his skill set as a player. He definitely has the potential to be a great point productions forward, he just needs more ice time and some better linemates to really take that next step.
If the Penguins can offer him a high spot in the lineup and some decent time per game, it's likely he leaves the Leafs for a change of scenery. The Penguins would really benefit from a guy like him, especially to add firepower on the lacking powerplay.
