Oilers broadcaster Jack Michaels has formed an incredible bond with the fanbase since joining the team in 2010, but he's also formed a bond with the players on the team.

In a recent episode of the Spittin' Chiclets Podcast, Jack Michaels told a story of the players recognizing his 1000th game with the team, a testament to the leadership of Connor McDavid.

»They did something kind of silly for me last year. I hit 1000 games . . . Connor McDavid was the first, and then not the last, because literally every guy on the team said hey, congrats on a thousand.' I kind of took that as like, that's what makes a guy such a good leader.

Bottom line is, I appreciated that. When the players took time out to kind of say that, that tells you you're dealing with a good group of people.»

Michaels is adored by the fans in Edmonton for being one of the few announcers who can truly capture the intensity and passion of watching the game from a fans perspective. He unabashedly supports the Oilers, which earns some ire from rival fans and keeps him off the national broadcasts, but it's what makes his calls so electric for Oilers fans. Michaels' call of the last moments before clinching the Cup Final on home ice was one of the best a broadcaster has produced in recent years, and he selected it as his personal favourite call of his career.

Oilers hockey is always best when Jack Michaels is in the booth. Maybe this is the year Sportsnet finally selects him to broadcast the playoffs on television, and give the whole hockey world the energy of his calls on the biggest stage.
