When the Oilers safely had the victory secured, Coffey put out Philip Broberg with Mattias Ekholm for a shift to honour their Swedish connection.
With the win safely in the bag, this is a small but incredible gesture Coffey made to recognize two great players in a great moment. Both Ekholm and Broberg will remember that shift for their whole careers, and Swedish hockey fans will love the respect from Coffey to make the move.
Since being added to the lineup midway through the playoffs, Philip Broberg has been a total revelation. He entered the lineup regularly midway through the Dallas series when Vincent Desharnais came out, and he's given a much different look to the Oilers bottom pairing. Kulak plays solid stay at home defence, and Broberg is gaining confidence by the shift in his puck-moving.
It looks like Broberg will be a shoe-in for a regular spot in the lineup next season, as well as young Oiler Dylan Holloway. Both players can provide some cap-relief to the team by making solid contributions to the team on cheaper RFA deals. It seems that at just the right time, Broberg and Holloway are both emerging as the player the Oilers hoped they could be.
