During last night's NHL on TNT broadcast, Wayne Gretzky told the story of his first experience playing against Zdeno Chara, the NHL's tallest player ever.

Gretzky said he first noticed Chara during warm ups and told his coach to put him on the ice whenever Chara was out there as he was still figuring out a few things, Gretzky said he was a like Bambi. However, the next year, Gretzky told his coach to take him off the ice whenever Chara was out there because by then Chara had figured out how to utilize his body and be the dominant defenseman we all know.

Gretz has an ALL-TIME story about playing against Zdeno Chara for the first time

Chara has said it himself that he was a late bloomer and it took him a few season in pro hockey to really get his agility under control but he eventually did and would go on to do great things. The former Bruins captain would go on to win the Norris trophy while also adding a Stanley Cup ring to his collection of hardware. Nowadays, he is not only known for being the tallest player to ever play in the NHL but also for being one for being one of the top defensemen of the 2000's and 2010's.
