Defensemen declines 5 year deal with Edmonton Oilers - truth finally revealed

During the postseason of 2021, the Edmonton Oilers were not able to sign Adam Larsson to a new contract.

As a result, he declined a contract extension and explored free agency, only to sign with the Seattle Kraken after the expansion draft.

He was acquired from the New Jersey Devils in 2016 for Taylor Hall, and by 2021, the Oilers and Larsson would discuss an extension.

Larsson would decline the team's five-year contract and explore free agency to sign with the Seattle Kraken, totaling $16 Million with a $4 Million average annual value.

Larsson leaving the Oilers and exploring other pastures undoubtedly soured Oilers fans. However, Larsson's reasons for not resigning in Oil Country were personal, because of a family issue.

He wouldn't sign with Oilers as UFA. Offered five year contract. You know the story: Adam's dad died here on trip from Sweden and it was family issue not to resign in Edm. The GM didn't have anything to do with Adam leaving

In the wake of the death of his father Robert Larsson, aged 50 at the time in Edmonton in 2018, he wanted a change of scenery.

In the long run, it had nothing to do with GM Peter Chiarelli at the time.

We can blame Chiarelli for a lot, but not this one.
