Much was made when it was announced that Oilers fan favorite Sam Gagner was making his triumphant return to the team for a third time.
After signing a professional tryout while spending some time with the condors Gagner has been effective for the limited minutes he's played.
After sustaining an undisclosed injury, it was announced today that Gagner still remains out of the lineup which allowed Phil Kemp to make his NHL debut in Montreal.
Many thought including head coach Kris Knoblauch that this would be a short term injury. Unfortunately, it seems that he has taken a step back and remains on the sidelines. The 34-year-old seems to have adopted the bench and many players look up to Gagner.
Having played 1033 games in his career while scoring 196 goals or 332 assists for 528 points, he's the kind of leader the team needs and can give the players advice and mentor ship to help them for the grueling schedule that's about to hit.
It's also worth noting that Gagner truly loves playing the city of Edmonton, and the fans have reciprocated that back to him.
