The gritty right winger wants to bring speed, penalty killing skills and help the team be better defensively. He also hoped the story of reuniting him with his former Erie Otters linemate Connor McDavid would have been icing on the cake.
It turns out this was a disaster of assigning as Brown has been non-existent for the Oilers since the day he arrived.
With his former Erie coach Kris Knoblauch now in full control of the Oilers, it was noted by Frank Seravalli as he was a guest on the OilersNation podcast that Connor Brown was pissed that he was made a healthy scratch for their game against the New Jersey Devils. According to Seravalli, Brown walked off the ice at practice noticeably angered after a discussion with coach Knoblauch. Now, Oilers fans are thinking Brown isn't acting much like the veteran team player he was expected to be.
Brown has been completely invisible for the team. Through 23 games, he has only produced one assist and is a - 10 with 14 minutes and 26 seconds of ice time on average.
What's more damning for the Oilers is that they signed him to an odd contract of $4 million structured that he carried a signing bonus of over $3 million if he played over 10 games with the team.
Holland fumbled this move and failed to waive him as he was not producing during those 10 games to avoid the cap penalty that will hit the Oilers salary cap next season. They will now be facing a $3.4 million cap penalty.
This was an all around terrible move and has set the Oilers back next season.
