After 22 games this season, a massive drought was finally broken last night. Late in the third period, Ryan McLeod secured the Oilers win with an empty net goal, his first of the season.

Now, the Oilers Nation podcast has revealed a hilarious visualization to how long McLeod's drought was. According to them, McLeod skated over 80km in distance before scoring his first goal - the same distance as a road trip from Edmonton to Mundare.

It's encouraging for McLeod to finally get the monkey off his back and get on the scoresheet, because he could be a serious contributor for depth scoring. Selected in the second round by the Oilers in 2018, he's still just 24 years old and to a two-year, $2.1M annual contract.

After scoring 11 goals and 23 points last season, the Oilers are hoping he can keep developing and take another step to becoming a more offensive threat. As a young player on a cheap deal, it's this kind of production that can make the difference in such a competitive league like the NHL.
