There has always been a code of conduct with NHL players voicing their opinions against the referees of the league. No matter how ugly or lack of call there is, players are expected to keep their opinions to themselves.
Veteran NHLer Kyle Okposo chose to break that code when Lance Lysowski of the Buffalo News asked him about the 5-minute major boarding call and a 10 minute misconduct against Sabres Eric Robinson when he hit Habs Justin Barron.
Okposo certainly did not mince his words, and it remains to be seen whether the NHL will fine him for his comments. The NHL takes a dim view towards criticism about their officials and have fined several NHL coaches over the years for their remarks.
Time will tell if the NHL will review these calls and bring a level of consistency.
