Zach Hyman sustained an injury last game against the Ottawa Senators, and Coach Knoblauch confirmed that he was deemed unable to return to the game.
There hasn't been additional information released about Hyman's injury, and broadcast cameras didn't catch what play shook him up in Ottawa.
Fans did notice Hyman took a few major hits against the Senators though, and the game before, he was decked out by Arber Xhekaj - it's possible something was tweaked by these huge hits.
Oilers fans know Drake Caggiula well, now a 30 year old depth forward that began his NHL career with Edmonton in the 2016-17 season.
The Oilers brought back Caggiula in free agency last offseason, and 8 years later, he's impressed at the AHL level recently this year to earn this call up.
The Edmonton Oilers may also be missing forward Victor Arvidsson in tonight's game with an undisclosed injury.
Arvidsson missed a practice last week for an alleged maintenance day, but ended up missing four straight games with still no further update.
Fans have had some concerns about Arvidsson being an injury-prone player, as he's never played a full season in his 11 year career.
Now Oilers fans may be seeing why Arvidssson has that billing - a potentially minor injury has set him back a quite bit. In his absence, the team has been tired out a bit playing with only 11 forwards.
Hopefully Hyman and Arvidsson are able to heal up quick and get back in the lineup as soon as possible. The Oilers are already struggling to score, and losing two top six forwards won't help.
Drake Caggiula and Kasperi Kapanen will join the Oilers for tonight's game in Edmonton against the Minnesota Wild. The Oilers will be looking to keep up the momentum of their dominant win over the Senators last time out.
