It was an incredible year that the team came up just short in, and the Captain took the time today to send a message to the fans.
It's incredible to see the leader of the team and the best player in the league take a moment to send a message to the fans after such a memorable playoff run, where they were just on the cusp of making history. It's interesting to hear him say lessons were learned in these playoffs, because they were so dominant until the final round. As Zach Hyman said, the real lesson this year may have been to never go down 0-3.
This post comes at a curious time as well. It's seemingly randomly well after the series was over, the draft and free agency are well over, and hockey is truly moving into the dog days of the offseason. Very likely, McDavid was still processing the heartbreaking loss and running it through his mind frequently up until the present moment. Now however, it's time to toss that aside and focus on training for next year.
Motivated by coming so close to their first championship in the McDavid era, the Oilers will come out next season fired out of a cannon - especially in the playoffs. The theme of next season will all be about taking care of unfinished business, and preparing the team to go on a long playoff run. It looks like McDavid is already thinking about next spring.
