Connor McDavid Shuts Down Interview Question About Stanley Cup Final
Connor McDavid and the Oilers have been heavily questioned about the pain of losing the Stanley Cup Final last year, and now they're over it.
In an interview after practice today, McDavid shut down any more questions about the Cup Final loss, and made it clear that the Oilers are turning the page.
REPORTER: Is there anything, you know it was total devastation last year
MCDAVID: Enough about last year. Enough about last year.
REPORTER: Is there anything from that feeling, that moment that helps you this year, that you take out of it and you don't just erase?
MCDAVID: Uh I don't know. It's about this year, you know, I've talked a lot about last year. Lotta questions about it, lot of different things about last year. I've answered all of them, done everything. We're moving on. It's about this year.
The paint of last season's Cup Final loss has been heavily revisited by the recent Amazon Documentary which followed the Oilers behind the scenes. McDavid was seen sobbing in the locker room and many more emotional events were captured. It was an extremely tough time for the Edmonton Oilers, and it's the right mentality for their leader to want to turn the page. They've given enough media attention to last year, now they need to focus on the task at hand.
While McDavid downplayed the lessons learned in a tough loss, they're undoubtedly going to draw on last season as motivation. After being just one win away from the Stanley Cup, the Edmonton Oilers will be more motivated than ever to get back to hockey in June, and finish the job.
