Connor McDavid is just 27 years old, and he'll be getting his first jersey retirement ceremony this year.

The Eerie Otters announced this morning that McDavid will join them on January 10, 2025 in a ceremony to retire his jersey number.

McDavid played his entire junior career from 2012 to 2015 with the Otters, and was perhaps the best player in the franchsie's history. McDavid was able to surpass the point per game in his age 15 season, which was practically unheard of prior to him. In his last season in 2015, McDavid absurdly scored over 2.5 points per game - 120 points in just 47 games. He broke just about every record, but came just short of a championship with the Eerie Otters.

A couple current-day Oilers may tag along for the trip with Connor, too. Kris Knoblauch coached the Otters for the entire time McDavid was on the team, and Travis Dermott and Connor Brown were also on the team for a time. If McDavid is making the trip out during the season, he may as well bring a couple old buddies.

McDavid getting his jersey retired at just 27 years old is a recognition of his fantastic junior career, but the speed of which they're doing so is also a sign of his greatness.

At the end of his career, McDavid will probably have number 97 retired in Edmonton as well. Entering his 10th NHL season this year, McDavid is just 13 points away from reaching his 1000th career point. He could be the third fastest player in NHL history to do so, only behind Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux. When it's all said and done, McDavid will be on the Mount Rushmore of greatest players in hockey.

It'll be a great sight for Oilers fans to see McDavid get recognition for his incredible career so far. The date of January 10th is marked on the calendar!
