Training camp for the Edmonton Oilers is beginning next week, and the roster could look much different by the time they play their first preseason game.
The Oilers first preseason game is scheduled for September 22, meaning training camp will open just a few days prior. A few weeks ago, NHL insider Frank Seravalli said the Oilers could shake up the roster with a major trade for a defenceman before that time.
»I've got to tell you, there are other things that Edmonton is looking at, including a potential trade that could shake things up a little bit more than the PTO route. [A trade that] wouldn't have to wait until training camp.» - Frank Seravalli
It seems very likely the Oilers will sign a player to a PTO before training camp begins, but as Seravalli mentioned, they are doing some work on potential trades at the moment. They'll surely trade for a defenceman later in the season towards the deadline, but if they did before training camp begins, the fanbase would be absolutely fired up.
