Edmonton Oilers prospect Noah Philp is expected to make a bid for a roster spot in training camp this year after coming out of a brief retirement.

The Oilers signed Philp in 2022 after two successful seasons with the University of Alberta. The centreman made the Bakersfield Condors after an amateur tryout, and played one full season before taking a year long break from hockey. Now 26 years old, Kurt Leavins in the Edmonton Journal is reporting he is looking good enough to make the team.

»Will Noah Philp be able to pick up where he left off before leaving the game for a year? I hear Philp is in crackin' good shape.»
- Kurt Leavins, Edmonton Journal

Earlier this offseason, the Edmonton Journal ranked Philp as the Oilers 5th best prospect with a chance to play NHL games this season. The Oilers will be one of the oldest teams in the league next year, and if they're looking to inject more youth and speed, they could most easily replace Ryan with a player like Philp or Lane Pederson.

The 2022-23, the Canmore native Noah Philp had a fantastic season with the Condors and inspired a lot of hope that he could be an NHL player. In 70 games, he scored 19 goals and 37 points while being a quality two-way player. He hasn't opened up much about his year long retirement from hockey, but Oilers fans have to be rooting for a player looking for a redemption arc.
