The latest episode of Flames Talk podcast Stated that the Edmonton Oilers along with the Calgary Flames and the Toronto Maple Leafs are linked to unrestricted free agent Mark Giordano.

Last season, Giordano was playing for the Toronto Maple Leafs and at 40 years old made him the oldest player in the league. He has expressed that he would like to continue his career, and his agent Ritch Winter joined the Eric Francis Hour has mentioned that those 3 Canadian teams amongst others have shown interest in the defender.

The experience he would bring to the Oilers dressing room as he has played for several NHL teams including his first stint with the Flames would be immeasurable as he was captain for 8 seasons. During his time in Toronto, he had taken several players under his wing and gave valuable information on how to be a professional and how to win especially at defense.

The Oilers have one contract space available along with $945,000 in cap space. To land Giordano he would need to take a league minimum deal to which he would become the 8th defenseman. Recently, the oilers have pushed out Cody Ceci through trade to open cap space while acquiring Ty Emberson to round out the return from the San Jose Sharks.

It remains to be seen on whether Stan Bowman would be interested in landing Giordano, but the organization has the contract and the money to make it happen.
