According to Elliotte Friedman, Draisaitl has bought a new home next to McDavid's offseason home so the two can spend more time together, and train during the offseason.
It's incredible to see the Oilers two superstars be this close off the ice. Connor McDavid's next contract will be coming next offseason, and by all insider accounts, McDavid wants to play with Leon Draisaitl. Now that Draisaitl's signed, NHL insider Frank Seravalli guaranteed that McDavid will stay in Edmonton as well.
Earlier this offseason, Oilers CEO Jeff Jackson also essentially confirmed that McDavid and Draisaitl are a package deal, and they've discussed privately what their plans are. Not only that, but Jeff Jackson is also Connor McDavid's former agent.
All signs point towards the Oilers core being determined to stay together and contend for multiple Stanley Cups together in Edmonton - but they'll be going through a serious cap crunch. After the 2025-26 season, the Oilers will need to sign Connor McDavid, Evan Bouchard, and Stuart Skinner to serious pay raises. Jeff Jackson has also noted that the front office will need to prioritize finding cheap talent to contribute on the roster.
Regardless of the salary cap crunch though, it's fantastic for the Oilers and their fans to have their superstars this committed to each other and to winning in Edmonton. The next few years should be the primes of their career, and they look to have the potential of a dynasty team.
