In his interview, he revealed that he grew up rooting for the Oilers as a child as he's a local talent and prior to his trade to the organization, he was living in Edmonton with many of his friends and took part in the celebrations and the games at restaurants and in other venues while taking in the atmosphere.
The 20-year-old center was traded to the Oilers on July 5th, 2024, in exchange for Ryan McLeod and Tyler Tullio. He was the 9th overall pick in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft for the Sabres and is excited to show the Oilers management and coaching staff that he is ready to capture a roster spot as the team prepares for its rookie camp which will be held in Penticton British Columbia this weekend.
Last season he spent his time with the Moose Jaw Warriors, and he played 23 games, scoring 19 goals with 28 assists for 47 points and had eight penalty minutes. His stats line in the playoffs was even more impressive as he played nineteen games, scoring ten goals with 14 assists for 24 points with 10 penalty minutes.
The Warriors won their first league championship in 2024 which gave Savoie a taste of what it's like to win a championship. With the cap issues the team is facing, a player like Savoie would be optimal to help take a roster spot as his costs would be far lower and be more cap friendly.
The rookie camp will begin on Friday September 13th head will go through the weekend ending on Monday September 16th.
