The Oilers have several holes to address, and it seems that they are turning their attention to the San Jose Sharks for help.
According to 32 Thoughts podcaster and Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman mentioned a new name on his pod with Jeff Marek that Luke Kunin could be a name for the Oilers in helping their bottom 6 toughness.
The 26 year old winger centre was drafted in the 2016 NHL draft, 1st round, 15th overall. His style of play is best in the bottom 6 along with the ability to hit. He also can pot in the occasional goal which has also been missing.
Kunin's also notable for his hits and physical play. He averages just under 3 hits a game, which would put him second on the Oilers behind Evander Kane. Kunin is also more than willing to drop the gloves, adding another element of toughness for the Oilers in the playoffs.
GM Holland seems to be more on the bargain front. Kunin holds a cap hit of 2.75 million in his final year of his deal. I would expect some salary retention would need to come with any deal. This player would be a strong candidate for the Oilers.
