The Edmonton Oilers announced today that the organization has signed forward Brayden Tracey to a professional tryout contract.

Tracey's tryout will be with the AHL's Bakersfield Condors, who have been in desperate need of another forward. This could be a real solid pickup, as Tracey is an Alberta kid and relatively recent draft pick.

Tracey is now 23 years old, and was drafted 29th overall by the Anaheim Ducks back in 2019. He's spent his entire professional career in the Ducks system, playing for the AHL's Sam Diego Gulls, and earning 1 NHL game in the 2022-23 season. He stands at 6'1, and is a left shot winger.

Despite his draft pedigree in a draft that was only 5 years ago, there's not much to indicate that Tracey could become an NHL player. In 55 AHL games last season, Tracey only scored 9 goals and 25 points, then wasn't renewed by the Ducks organization. He'll have plenty to prove in the Oilers organization, so perhaps he is able to find a way to dial in and play the best hockey of his career.

In accordance with this move, the Oilers also sent down depth forward Drake Caggiula to the AHL today. In the coming days the Oilers are expected to activate Connor McDavid, and then they may have to send down Derek Ryan as well.

At the end of the day, this move is just a good value pickup for the Oilers to get something more decent talent into their organization. Even strengthening the farm team is important in creating a winning culture for developing players. Hopefully this addition turns out well for the Condors, and in turn the Oilers.
