The Florida Panthers beat out the Oilers in the Cup Final last year as Edmonton came just short of completing a legendary 0-3 series comeback.
Now, the Panthers are coming into Edmonton after being shut out in their last two games. Incredibly, that same pattern happened last year, and it ended with a 5-1 blowout win for the Panthers.
The Panthers have been shut out in their last two games against the Vancouver Canucks and Calgary Flames, just like last year when they were shut out against the Canucks and Kraken.
Not only is it just odd that the Panthers produced the same results on last year's west coast road trip, it will give Florida an extra bit of motivation in a game they already should be psyched up for.
Heading into tomorrow game, the Oilers and Panthers are tied for 9th place in the NHL standings with 38 points, with the edge going to Edmonton for having one less game played.
Both teams have been a bit below expectations to start, which is usually attributed to the Stanley Cup hangover. Both teams are beginning to heat up now, with Edmonton racking up 9 wins in their last 12 games, and Florida recently having a 6-1 stretch.
There could be some real rivalry reignited tomorrow night as these two teams relive the battle of the Stanley Cup Final. It should be appointment television for any hockey fans, so hopefully, Edmonton avoids a blowout loss.
