He explains in his tweet on the X platform that the Canadiens are a clear winner of the trade that saw William Laegsson, a conditional 2022 second round pick and a seventh-round pick sent to the Canadiens in exchange for Brett Kulak.
It's safe to say, at the Edmonton Oilers chose to bring kulak into their roster as they felt that he would give them the experience they needed and the type of defenseman they were looking for as the Oilers are currently in a win now mode.
Kulak has been a fixture on the Oilers blue line since arriving in 2022 and has been with the team for four seasons. Every season that he plays with the Oilers he continues to gain ice time and current head coach Kris Knoblauch along with assistant coach Paul Coffey feels confident and comfortable with Kulak's play.
It seems ridiculous to compare the trade where both teams are currently in different stages of their Stanley Cup aspirations and the fact that Kulak has been in the league since 2014 when he was drafted by the Oilers rival the Calgary Flames and has been a contributor for every team he's played for.
Hutson will be a budding star defenseman within the next couple of seasons and will likely be in their top two pairing. Through 44 games, the Canadiens rookie has scored three goals with 33 assists for 36 points and is a - 4.
No matter the case, Hutson will continue to learn how to play in the NHL with a team that's still looking on the outside in of the playoffs while Kulak will enjoy playing in the playoffs and potentially be in another Stanley Cup final two years in a row.
