Several weeks ago, former Pittsburgh Penguin turned broadcaster Colby Armstrong sat down with Oilers superstar Leon Draisaitl and asked if he would be willing to join the Four Nations for Canada.

«I'm German. I'll stick to that, sorry, dude.» Leon Draisaitl sat down with @armdog
to discuss his new contract, Leon getting a Canadian passport, and more! | On the Couch with Colby presented by BODYARMOR Sports Drink.

Draisaitl was asked if he would be willing to join Team Canada

Both men sat down on Colby Armstrong's couch and the former NHLer rhymed off all the places that Draisaitl played for as he played all his junior and NHS time in Canada.

Armstrong even had a tongue in cheek moment when he asked him if he'd be willing to spring that Canadian passport to the Oilers superstar For the Four Nations tournament.

Getting time off over the next 12 days with the NHL pausing for the Four Nations Face-Off @EdmontonOilers centre Leon Draisaitl already owns 40 goals in 2024-25 as he aims for another season of 50+ while being on pace for 60. Thanks to it, he's now tied behind just 4 others here

Draisaitl Played along and said that he needs to keep some of his European flavor and that he's German and he can't go back from his roots.

Several countries missing from tournament

This edition of the Four Nations which is the inaugural tournament has chosen Canada, the United States, Sweden and Finland as the choices for this contest. Germany, Czechia and Russia were not involved Which has shut out several great players in the NHL from participating.

This 4 Nations format is kinda dumb. If you're not going to do a true World Cup type of format, at least allow the Czechs in and then bring in the «Team Europe» from the last time so we can see Draisaitl, Stützle, etc.

It's quite likely the NHL will choose other teams to mix up the tournament as it continues to grow in popularity. Draisaitl Is by far the best player in Germany's arsenal and would love to get into this tournament but can't.

It remains to be seen on how the NHL will continue to grow the tournament and develop but it's safe to say that at some point soon, Draisaitl will be on the ice to participate.
