Holloway injured his wrist in 2021 playing with the University of Wisconsin, and had surgery on it soon afterwards. He says it's fine for him to play hockey, but still struggles with some simple day to day tasks. Thankfully it's his bottom hand on his stick - his left hand - so it doesn't affect his stick handling or shooting as much.
As Holloway said, it's obviously less than ideal that his wrist is in this type of condition. Even though he may be able to get by with the weakened wrist on his non-dominant hand, it still may be holding his offensive potential back. Holloway had a fantastic scoring season in 2020-21 with the University of Wisconsin, but since then has never been able to replicate that at the professional level, and also past his surgery.
Dylan Holloway will bring speed, energy, and be a great teammate on the St. Louis Blues. He's set to get much more opportunity with the Blues, and hopefully he can make the most of that ice time. For the Oilers, it was still the right move to let him walk and take the draft picks and salary cap space.
