According to a new report from Bob Stauffer on OilersNow, it's likely the team revisits their restricted free agents in the month of August.
Additionally, the team is hoping to get each player signed for 2 years, near $1M, referencing Podkolzin and Hoglander in Vancouver at a similar value. Both Broberg and Holloway have showed promise in limited opportunities, especially in the playoffs, but don't have the point totals or roles to command a real increase in salary yet. Broberg scored 2 goals and 5 points in 22 games this year, and Holloway scored 11 goals and 16 points in 63 games.
Before the Oilers can even consider signing both players, they need to find a way to clear near $2.5M in salary. Currently the Oilers are $350K over the salary cap, and both Broberg and Holloway are expected to have roles on the team next year. A trade will be coming at some point for the Oilers to clear cap space, likely shipping out Cody Ceci, Brett Kulak, or potentially Evander Kane to the LTIR. All during this, the Oilers need to hire a General Manager as well.
Regardless of how the last few offseason tasks shake out, the Oilers have had an incredible offseason so far. Jeff Jackson has made incredible moves to make the roster better now, and acquire prospects for the future. Oilers fans have full confidence in Jackson to steer the ship, and get the Oilers their first Stanley Cup in the McDavid era.
