Campbell was reflecting on his time in the AHL and a potential comeback to the NHL in an interview with Daniel Nugent-Bowman of the Athletic recently. Campbell noted how much he's grown, especially mentally in his time with Bakersfield, and put the message out that any team that believes in Campbell now, he'll reward them with the best play of his career.
It's a strong message from Campbell, who rarely spoke with this kind of confidence in his time with Edmonton, or even Toronto. Campbell's biggest obstacle through all of his struggles this year has always been his mindset, and now that he seems to be settled in with the AHL, he's regained the focus and confidence needed to be a professional goalie.
In recent days, the Philadelphia Flyers have been rumoured to have interest in acquiring Campbell in trade. If the Oilers trade with the Flyers for a rental player, they could increase the price to include Campbell, which would work for both sides - the Oilers want rid of Campbell's contract, and the Flyers are in need of a goalie after Hart's departure.
Both teams have been heavily scouting each other in recent days, so now we'll have to see if a deal can come to fruition, and if Campbell can really make a comeback to the NHL.
