McDavid was spotted at an optional practice today, looking pretty decent as he took a light practice. After practice McDavid spoke to the media for the first time since sustaining the injury, and confirmed that he may be making an early comeback to face the Vancouver Canucks on November 9th.
McDavid said that he's beginning to feel much better and getting good reps in on the ice again. With his condition continuing to improve, he's hoping to beat the original injury timeline of 2-3 weeks and instead only miss 4 games. McDavid basically updated his injury to now being day-to-day, which is fantastic news for the Oilers.
It feels like McDavid really avoided a potential disastrous situation. McDavid jammed his ankle directly into the boards with speed, which could've resulted in a much worse injury.
The Oilers captain also spoke about sitting at home and watching the games, giving his thoughts on his teammates play without him. McDavid said it's a lot easier to watch games where they win, and he's glad to see the team pull together without him, but they still have another level to achieve to beat at their best. McDavid also gave a chuckle and said he thought Anthony Mantha's goal last night was a high stick.
In the two games without Connor McDavid the Oilers have banded together to play their most complete team games yet this season. If they can continue that level of play when McDavid is added back to the lineup, the Oilers will soon get to their peak mid-season form, and hopefully get back on pace for a President's Trophy.
