McDavid stops team event to make incredible speech showing true leadership
Through his career and growing up in Edmonton, Oilers fans have seen Connor McDavid go from a shy and talented kid, to the best player in the world and a true leader. McDavid's leadership abilities were captured in an incredibly video from the team's photo day, where McDavid addressed both the players and the off-ice Oilers and Rogers Place staff for their contributions to making Edmonton the greatest team to play for in the NHL.
On behalf of all the players, we just wanna say thank you to everybody here. The fans only get to see the on-ice product, but there's so much that goes into it. You guys continue to make this organization the best organization to play for in the NHL, I truly believe that.
McDavid took a moment during the team photo when plenty of the off-ice Oilers staff was around the ice to make a speech and thank everybody - a truly great display of leadership and recognizance of the amount of effort goes into the Oilers team, not just from the hockey side.
McDavid seems incredibly genuine about his appreciation for the entire Oilers operation, even including the Rogers Place staff. When a video like this emerges with McDavid pledging his thanks and gratitude to Edmonton, it really feels like he'll be an Oiler for life. Toronto fans and other clowns around the league will always speculate that he'll leave, but McDavid is clearly fully committed to every aspect of the Oilers and the city of Edmonton for their support. He's not going anywhere.
