During his latest interview with Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli, several defensemen who would likely be on many lists for the Oilers appear to be unavailable including Mike Matheson of the Montreal Canadiens and Ivan Provorov of the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Yaremchuk spoke highly of Matheson as he felt that he would be a great addition to the Oilers but also explained that with the recent run of the Montreal Canadiens potentially heading towards a playoff spot may not be willing to part with him.
Another team that was mentioned in his list was the Utah Hockey Club. Yaremchuk stated that the team has eight defensemen as Sean Durzi and John Marino appear to be on the mend and will be back before the March trade deadline.
He feels that Utah general manager Bill Armstrong would be willing to make a move and feels that one of the three of Marino, Durzi and Micheal Kesselring could be a valuable pickup for the Oilers as the team continues to scour the league for help.
Over the past couple of months, rumors continue to fly around the Blue Jackets that Ivan Provorov would likely be moved prior to the NHL trade deadline.
According to Seravalli and Yaremchuk there's a strong sense that he may stay with the team as his younger brother will begin his hockey career in Ohio State and would be willing to sign a longer-term extension.
The Blue Jackets have been in a hot run over the past couple of weeks and are currently in a playoff spot but the team is still open to making the trade where Yaremchuk offered a potential deal for a player like Damon Severson.
It's safe to say the Oilers will do their due diligence and try to find the defensive help they need as the team enters its second half of the year and looks to secure its playoff spot to attempt to try another run at the Stanley Cup.
