Seconds into tonight's game between the Edmonton Oilers and Seattle Kraken, referees stopped play due to a major arena malfunction.

Just 11 seconds into the game, all of the lights in Climate Pledge Arena went dark. Light malfunctions happen sometimes, but this time it was total darkness.

It only lasted a few seconds, but it was enough to cause mass confusion within the arena. Oilers announced Jack Michaels just rolled with the moment, and within a few seconds, the lights came back on again.

The Edmonton Oilers had this same problem themselves in their arena just before the holiday break, so fans can't chirp too hard.

NHL fans react to brief power outage during Edmonton Oilers game

Still, fans are having plenty of fun with the incredible sight of hockey in the pitch black for just a second in Seattle.

With the name of Climate Pledge Arena, the jokes write themselves too. Whether it was a sustainability practice or a malfunction, we may never know.

For the most part, it's just a funny malfunction and an unusual sight for a few seconds in an NHL game. In all honesty though, that must seriously shock and surprise the players in the ice.

Moments after the outage, the Oilers opened the scoring with a shot from Vasili Podkolzin. If anything, the malfunction it seems to be advantage Oilers.

Hopefully Climate Pledge Arena is able to sort out their clear lights issues, and the Edmonton Oilers are able to bag a win after an unorthodox start to the game.
