Oilers' Evander Kane calls out Mark Spector for making up fake news
Evander Kane is elevating his game and playing his best hockey in the playoffs, while dealing with an injury. Kane had a great game last night marked by a Gordie Howe hat trick, and capped it off by calling out the media who never believed in him.
In post game interviews, Mark Spector asked Evander Kane what makes him play his best hockey in the playoffs, and Kane took the opportunity to call out Spector's poor reports on him.
Just a few days ago, Mark Spector came out with a bizarre report going after Evander Kane for causing too much drama around the team. Spector was referencing the known problems in the past Kane has dealt with, as well as disclosing his hernia injury to the media before playoffs. Hilariously, the media has since deleted Spector's comments, but here's what he said:
»As has been the case all of Kane's career, too much drama, boys. Too much drama around Evander Kane. Useless drama. I'll do what every player on every other team does. Yeah, maintenance day, I'm gonna try hard tomorrow. This is needless drama that you don't need starting playoffs, that you don't want in your dressing room. The guys we talk to about Evander Kane running his course - He doesn't run his course as a player, he runs his course as a bringer of drama.»
- Mark Spector
Instead of trying to rally around a player who had a tough season, Mark Spector bizarrely tried to run Kane out of town with this kind of comment.
With Kane dealing with the adversity of his serious injury as well as the media at his throat, Coach Knoblauch made a brilliant decision to promote Kane to the second line with Draisaitl and Nugent-Hopkins. Kane is an emotional player, who plays his best when he's fully invested. Last night was just that, as Kane was the Oilers best player last night. Kane scored a goal, assist, a fight, and then later took Drew Doughty off the ice with a 10 minute misconduct. Spector can call Kane out for drama, but Kane seems to be getting all the support of his teammates.
When Kane is playing his best, there's few other forwards in the NHL who can be as effective physically and on the score sheet. Last night, playoff Evander Kane arrived, and now the Oilers could be unstoppable.
