Oilers fans asked by Coyotes fans to join in on franchise sendoff
Tonight, the Oilers will visit the Coyotes in Arizona for the final game in their team's history. Before relocation to Utah, Coyotes fans have asked visiting Oilers fans to join in on saying goodbye.
Oilers fans travel exceptionally well, and have had a presence at Mullet Arena a few times this season. With plenty of Oilers fans expected at the Coyotes final game, a Coyotes fan on Reddit made a post pleading with fans to wear white to the game. The Coyotes fans are breaking out their playoff tradition of a whiteout' as a send-off gesture.
"Plea to visiting Oilers fans in Arizona on Wednesday - Wear White if Possible
Good Afternoon Oilers family, visiting Yotes fan here.
We are attempting to organize a whiteout, I've been to quite a few Oilers vs Yotes games where we've been outnumbered, so I merely ask if you are able to where a white Oilers jersey or gear you would make us all happy.
I hope if you are attending this game you all enjoy and have a great time sending off our boys one last time in Arizona."
It's great to see the fans organize and put together a way to say their goodbye to the players and the team - and it's fantastic that Oilers fans have been receptive to the invitation to join in. Tomorrow, the Arizona Coyotes and the NHL will announce the official deal to send the team to Utah, and the players and staff will travel shortly after to begin work preparing for the upcoming season.
The Coyotes owner Alex Maruelo will reportedly retain ownership rights to the Coyotes franchise, and will be able to bring the team back into the NHL as an expansion team within 5 years. With how disastrous the team has performed under his tenure, it honestly feels like a long shot the NHL will ever get back into business with Meruelo.
