Oilers Insider reveals wish list for General Manager Stan Bowman at trade deadline
Oilers insider Jason Gregor of the Jason Gregor show revealed what he thinks will be the wish list that Oilers general manager Stan Bowman will look for at the NHL trade deadline in March.
The Oilers have received positive reviews from their latest acquisition on defence with John Klingberg. But Gregor feels the Oilers need more time with him and they still looked for a depth defenseman who may come at a lower cost.
Bowman always seeking to upgrade team while being creative
Bowman has shown but he can think outside of the box and look at other options that could help the Oilers including the signing of Klingberg, and forward Kasperi Kapanen Who was claimed off waivers from the St Louis Blues earlier this year.
The losses to the offer sheets of Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway have not phased the Oilers in the long run as the team continues to push an remain at the top of the Pacific division.
Gregor feels that a speedy winger maybe in order for the Oilers as the team needs to improve its speed considering it's been viewed as one of the oldest teams in the NHL.
Many options still available for Oilers at the deadline
With the Four Nations face off do to begin in the next few days, it will give the Oilers a chance to evaluate the team and begin to inquire with other GM's to see what is available prior to the March trade deadline.
The other factor is that teams are beginning to fade in their playoff runs that many felt were not in the hunt at the beginning of the season.
As the teams fall out of favor and become the bottom teams that many predicted, the Oilers may have more players available to ask about and potentially trade for.
It's widely expected that Bowman will not make any major deals until the deadline as he has a mission to improve the team as best he can with more depth that will give him the best chance to run for the Stanley Cup.
