Gretzky went to former general manager Glen Sather to help Moss have a tryout with the team Which led to a long career with the Oilers as an assistant helping with cleaning, handing towels and running errands.
Moss who grew up in Edmonton became a celebrity in the city as he was always seen around the Oilers organization. He also took part in many ceremonies and was seen during many playoff runs including the 2006 run when he attended every game while waiting for hernia surgery showing his love for the Oilers runs deep.
The Oilers are dedicating their current 50-50 raffle towards the legacy of Joey Moss by supporting the Edmonton Down syndrome society, Special Olympics Alberta and Winnifred Stewart which is currently over $500,000.
Current and past Oilers players spoke out about Moss and what he brought to the organization and how many feel that he is an Oilers legend including Connor McDavid, Ryan Nugent Hopkins and Darnell Nurse.
The Oilers erected a statue of Moss at the entrance of their dressing room and all players always give him a high 5 or a tap with their stick prior to the game beginning.
Mr. Moss captured the hearts of players, the organization and the city of Edmonton along with the country with his dedication and love for the Oilers all the way till his death which occurred on October 26th, 2020, as he was 57 years old.
