It's a question that was reckless, ugly and downright wrong as Spector chose to put Desharnais down with his poor choice of words. It was clear from Connor Browns view that he thought the question was completely ridiculous.
The 28-year-old defenseman was drafted by the Oilers in 2016, in the seventh round 183rd overall. While playing in 16 playoff games he only had one assist and was a - 9. Those numbers do not bode well as this is a contract year as he is completing his two-year deal worth $1.525 million. It seems unlikely that the Oilers will retain his services as the team continues to evaluate its roster after losing in game seven of the Stanley Cup final.
With the uncertainty of Ken Holland's future with the Oilers and the team holding 12 restricted an unrestricted free agent, it's likely players like Desharnais will be on the outside looking in and seeking to find work elsewhere.
The Oilers also have a cap crunch with fourteen players signed under contract, the team only has a measly $10 million in cap space for next season which likely means many players will not return.
It also means that there's a chance a well-known player will be on the move who could be Evander Kane, Ryan Nugent Hopkins, and Jack Campbell.
