The March 7th trade deadline is fast approaching, and Edmonton Oilers general manager Stan Bowman is looking to leave his permanent mark on the team. That said, new reports indicate that the Buffalo Sabres are exploring trade options regarding Finnish defenceman Henri Jokiharju, and Edmonton has emerged as a prime landing spot.

The Edmonton Oilers finally broke their 5 game losing streak with a win over the Carolina Hurricanes, but defensive flaws continue to be a problem for the team.
That said, NHL insider David Pagnota recently reported that the Buffalo Sabres are open to trading defenceman Henri Jokiharju, and all signs suggest a potential move to Edmonton.

It's no secret that GM Stan Bowman has been aggressively exploring the market to add a right-hand shot defenceman to bolster the Oilers backend.
While that sentiment holds, the current market for reliable right-handed blue-liners is quite thin.
However, an intriguing option from the Buffalo Sabres has recently knocked on Stan Bowman's door.
With the #Sabrehood trying to trade Henri Jokiharju, who'd welcome a move, they continue to get calls on others, including Alex Tuch, who has 1 more year left on his contract. Word is Buffalo's set a very high price. They prefer to keep him, unless a team is willing to overpay.
The Buffalo Sabres are experiencing their own version of "decade of darkness" and GM Kevyn Adams has made it extremely clear that his team is open for business come trade deadline.
Although Henri Jokiharju has struggled to put up offensive numbers this season, his defensive game is reliable, posting a +6 rating on a struggling Sabres team.
Yaremchuk also feels that it would only cost either a second or third round pick to make this deal happen which the Oilers do possess their own picks for the next three years.
