Reporter Connects Oilers to Trading for Former Defenceman at the Trade Deadline

Oilers reporter Jim Matheson suggests the team could use someone like Ceci so shortly after they had to dump him to the Sharks.
After the Oilers' frustrating season opening loss, some people are already starting to overreact with 81 games left. Whether it's fans saying how disappointed they are, or haters who enjoy the suffering, there has been lots of buzz about the Oilers. One overreaction came from Oiler journalist Jim Matheson, when he indicated that the Oilers may want to reunite with a recently cut player.
Here he brings up Cody Ceci's name as a possible name that the Oilers could be targeting, which is insane to even speculate on since Ceci was traded from the team just under two months ago.
It's crazy to suggest after one loss that the Oilers would be looking to recoup Ceci, especially since Oilers fans pushed so hard to get him traded from the team. Jim Matheson knows this, and actually responded to the wave of Oilers fans who called him out for this assertion on X.
Despite the outlandish suggestion, Matheson is definitely right about the premise. The Oilers do not need Ceci back any time soon, but they definitely do need a veteran right handed defenseman.
The Oilers are playing Ty Emberson on the second pairing, who was the return in the Ceci trade. He will be a good piece on the blue line, but still needs time to develop fully. The Oilers need a defenseman on the second pairing who can be responsible and consistent, something we have not seen from the blueline in a long time.
These qualities are seen in a lot of veterans, but there are few that can be brought in at a cheap price. Their only priority now needs to be bringing in that defender, so they can have consistency up and down the lineup.
