Stan Bowman Worries Fans With Statement About Oilers Plans at Trade Deadline

The Edmonton Oilers are a clear Stanley Cup contender this year, which warrants an impactful trade deadline move to help them win, but Stan Bowman may not take a big swing this season.
The Oilers are expected to add a defenceman in trade, but after holding scouting meetings, only David Savard of the Montreal Canadiens was brought up.
Speaking to the media today, Stan Bowman said that he's been happy with what he's seen from the Oilers so far, and fine tuning the roster may be the approach rather than an adding a high impact player.
Bowman may have a point when considering the Oilers don't have much cap space or trade assets to make a big trade.
Evander Kane met with the media today and stressed multiple times that he will be back this season - if he returns in the regular season, the Oilers will have only $1.04M in cap space.
Bowman's statement is still very disappointing and worrying for Oilers fans, who expect management to get creative and find solutions to add quality players.
Edmonton Oilers May Add Depth Players Only at Trade Deadline This Year
NHL insider Pierre LeBrun reported yesterday that the Oilers are still interested in acquiring a defenceman this year, but they're casting a wide net and being very flexible.
In combination with Bowman's comments today, it does support the theory that they could instead add some solid depth pieces, but no proven top four defenceman.
The Oilers are a mature team that's built and experienced for another long run in this year's playoffs.
On the cusp of winning the first Stanley Cup in the McDavid era, they deserve a more impactful deadline addition than just David Savard and adding back Evander Kane.
Hopefully, the Edmonton Oilers scouting staff identifies a player that can seamlessly fit onto their blue line and improve the team all around. It's what the players and fans deserve, both equally starved for a Stanley Cup.
