During an interview with Oilers Now, both insiders think that the Oilers and the Leon Draisaitl camp have concluded their negotiations and that a contract extension is ready to be announced. As expected, the term that keeps surfacing is an 8-year deal that will be below $14,000,000 per season.
It's been widely speculated that both Draisaitl and Connor McDavid have been in lockstep with one another in terms of remaining with the team for the long term while getting their max deals they would take less money to help the team remain competitive.
These contracts along with Evan Bouchard's extension are the three most important extensions that need to be addressed within the next two years. All three players our key members of the leadership group and are the core and heart of this team.
Many feel that this contract extension for Draisaitl will be announced within the next week as it was reported earlier on in the summer that he would like this completed before the season begins so that it's not a distraction and will allow him to carry on his career.
With such an explosive beginning to the summer with many great signings by CEO Jeff Jackson, it would be great to end the summer with a contract extension for Leon Draisaitl and Evan Bouchard if we're lucky.
